“Consciousness—The Cornerstone Of Life.”

Dear Friends

We are told that a stone uniting two masonry walls at an intersection is known as a cornerstone; relating to a physical building.

When we refer to the building of consciousness, it is not something solid, yet paradoxically far more reliable; something that is governed, we could say, by laws that far outweigh, and supersede, the laws we experience, set humanly in the world.

The stories found in the New Testament, told by Jesus through his Christ Consciousness, apply even today. In fact these stories (lessons) give us philosophies by which to live our lives.

The story under consideration, we find in the gospel of Matthew 7:24-27.

  1. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which build his house upon a rock:
  2. And the rain descended and the floods came, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
  3. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
  4. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

According to George Lamsa in his book, Gospel Light, “This is a picture of a man who builds upon the foundation of truth which stands like a rock and of another who builds on false doctrines which shift like sands.”

Now I heard these stories from an early age in Sunday School, interpreted literally, as I am sure is the case for many. Yet it is important to realize that we have evolved to a place of much deeper understanding and knowing.

A cornerstone refers to a stone uniting two masonry walls. Well, interestingly, in Truth there is no uniting of two separate aspects—there is a REALIZATION OF UNION.

The cornerstone then is the realization; and it is the realization in consciousness of the Oneness of All Life. And the depth of understanding in consciousness denotes the strength of our foundation in Truth.

In verse 24, we have Jesus stating that whoever hears these sayings of his and then follows through by living accordingly, will be considered wise. The law works and there will be a corresponding consequence. In other words, we have been given the “tools’ or know-how, and these are for each and every soul. No-one is excluded, yet perhaps we continue somehow to relate all this to a time gone past; to another era.

What was taught and shared with the people of biblical times— law and principle—still holds true today, and during these uncertain times we have the perfect reason to follow what works and let go of what does not.

We teach: “It is the destiny of mankind to express the Christ, for this cosmic principle within each individual soul is the way, the truth, and the life. The true individual life is an expression of the Infinite Life for by the law of expression like produces like, and thus is made plain the principle of Omnipresence—All is One.

Christ is the divinity, the light that lighteth every man, and, being universal, and formed in all, makes everyone a son. This does not lessen the divinity of Jesus but reveals the divinity of all mankind.”

Let us actively participate in being the cornerstone of truth, in consciousness.

In Closing….

“The ultimate aim of every man (woman) should be to come into the consciousness of an indwelling God, and then, in all external matters, to affirm deliverance through and by this Divine One.

There should not be a running to and fro, making human efforts to aid the Divine, but a calm, restful, unwavering trust in All-Wisdom and All-Power within one as able to accomplish the thing desired.”
